Finishing fourth in district, the Bowie baseball team drew District 16-5A champion Round Rock in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs. Despite having a pair of talented starting pitchers, the Bulldogs sustained a 5-0 defeat on Thursday and a slim 2-1 loss on Friday. “We competed well this year,” coach Rudy Alvarez said. “We won 17 games and that’s pretty good.”

Two teams from Jefferson County are traveling 3 1/2 hours away to play the Class 5A state baseball championship game in Baum Stadium in Fayetteville.

“Maybe we can play the best two out of three at Taylor Field and then go to Baum and finish it up,” White Hall coach Skip Carr said.

 When a team hits the ball and has its pitchers throw strikes, that baseball squad can be tough to beat.
